AANN Representative to ANA Committee Studying Nurse Suicide in the US

Description:

The AANN is seeking a volunteer to serve as a representative on the ANA’s Healthy Nurse, Healthy Nation Suicide Prevention Committee. Nurse suicide is a serious issue the profession is facing. Current research shows that nurses are at higher risk for suicide than the general population. The ANA committee will examine how to best support nurses at risk and provide suicide prevention resources. Ideally, the AANN Representative will bring expertise in suicide prevention or experience with conducting nurse suicide research.

 

The representative will serve in one of the following capacities: 

  1. Work Group will meet 1-2 times monthly and their objectives will include:
  • Examine current nurse suicide research
  • Gather effective suicide prevention strategies
  • Develop a product, policy, resource or position statement that will benefit nurses at risk

 

  1. Review Committee will meet monthly and their purpose will be to support the work of the Nurse Suicide Prevention Workgroup by:
  • Gathering and examining current nurse suicide research and effective suicide prevention strategies
  • Reviewing resource(s) benefiting nurses at risk that are developed by the Nurse Suicide Prevention Workgroup

 

Work will commence in Q1 2020 and is tentatively scheduled to conclude in July 2020. All work will be via teleconference and email.

  • A current condensed curriculum vitae that includes only (1) your credentials, current employer and title, and your contact information, (2) the professional organizations in which you hold membership, (3) the number of years you have worked in neuroscience nursing, (4) professional volunteer activities.
