POSITION: Associate Editor, Journal of Neuroscience Nursing (JNN)

The American Association of Neuroscience Nurses (AANN) is seeking an Associate Editor with a significant scholarly publication record to provide editorial leadership for the Journal of Neuroscience Nursing (JNN). The JNN is the official bimonthly, peer-reviewed journal for the AANN. The JNN has an impact factor of 1.230 and publishes content which focuses on clinically applicable evidence-based research. The Journal is accessible online and indexed in internationally renowned databases. This stipend-provided position involves working closely with the Editor-In-Chief (EIC) to assist with the supervision of workflow and manuscript reviews while contributing to the mission and vision of JNN.

The JNN delivers the latest evidence in neuroscience practice and research.

Qualifications:

  • Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) with a doctoral degree
  • Current member of AANN
  • A documented record of research and scholarship which includes publication in peer-reviewed journals (minimum 10 publications)
  • Recent (within 5 years) publication in JNN
  • Current Scopus h-index > 10 or Google Scholar h-index >15
  • Experience as a reviewer for a peer-reviewed journal
  • Organizational and communication skills
  • Experience in neuroscience nursing research or research utilization


Responsibilities may include:

  • Tracking and adjudication of manuscript submissions and reviewer activity using the Editorial Manager system
  • Distribute manuscripts to reviewers.
  • Synthesize comments from reviewers and make editorial decisions based upon the quality, fit, and acceptability of these manuscripts.
  • Assist the EIC in the development of editorial content, including solicitation of manuscripts via visits to posters or presentations at conferences and discussions with potential contributors.
  • Attend the in-person Editorial Board meeting at AANN Neuroscience Nursing Annual Conference annually.
  • Participate in Editorial Board conference calls and discussions and provide input for decisions related to editorial issues and other Journal business.
  • Assist in mentoring new authors
  • Assist in recruiting subject matter expert reviewers
  • Write and submit one editorial per year
  • Manage 10% of submitted articles through the editorial workflow (review, assigning reviewers, etc.)
  • Regularly promote JNN content via appropriate social media outlets.

Details:

  • $3,000/year stipend
  • 3-year term (March 1, 2021-February 28, 2024) with the option to extend pending evaluation. This agreement may be renewed by AANN for subsequent two (2) year terms.

Review of applications will begin on February 1, 2022. The term of the Associate Editor will commence on March 1, 2022. The Associate Editor will be expected to attend the Editorial Board Meeting at the AANN Neuroscience Nursing Annual Conference in Phoenix, AZ on Sunday, March 13, 2022 from 9:45-11:45 am MST (in person attendance if permitted by COVID guidelines).
